Obituary

A Max Knestrick, 90, of Washington, PA formerly of Amity, PA, passed away Sunday, July 27, 2014, in his home. He was born July 22, 1924 in Lone Pine, a son of Arthur Moninger Knestrick and Freeda Miller Knestrick. Mr. Knestrick attended Amity grade school and Trinity High School. He was awarded his high school diploma in 2002 at a graduation ceremony held for WW II veterans at Trinity High School. While in high school, he worked after school at Autenreith dollar store and was employed at Hazel Atlas Plant #1 for a short time after his military service. He later joined Plasters Local #31 (60 year member). He worked for Easley and Rivers Inc. in Pittsburgh. He joined the Coast Guard and was a veteran of WW II, served in the Atlantic in Corsair fleet and in the Pacific aboard the USS Sheliak as a third class Petty Officer. He was the recipient of the American Theatre Campaign Medal, Asia-Pacific Theatre Campaign Medal, one bronze star, WW II Victory Medal, Coast Guard Good Conduct Medal and Combat Action Rbbon. He was in the Okinawa invasion. He was a member of Lower Ten Mile Presbyterian Church where he was an elder and sang in the church choir, he was on the board of the cemetery association for many years. He also was a member of the Elks Lodge #776, American Legion Post #1765, Anawanna Hunting and Fishing Club, Sinamoahoning Hunting and Fishing Club, Washington county Historical Society. In 1945 he married Mary Orbin where they made their home in Pittsburgh. He is survived by two daughters, Jill Knestrick (Eugene) Temel, Beth Knestrick (Daniel) Markiewitz, a grandson Dr. Ryan (Crystal) Temel of Lexington, KY, a granddaughter, Erin (Jerod) Buckley of San Jose, CA, a great grandson, Hayden Temel, and a sister M. Jane Knestrick Walsh of Waynesboro, VA. On September 30, 1989, he married Doris S. (Debbie) Knestrick, who survives. Also surviving are step-children George (Vicki) Sisul of Meadville, Donald Sisul of Washington, Debra Sisul (Jeff) Cordy of Jeffersonton, VA, step grandchildren Ellie Sisul (Chuck) Church and Bekah Sisul (Michael) Young, John Bard Sisul, Henry Coyle, James Donald (Kriste) Sisul, Patrick A. Sisul, Elizabeth Sisul (Daniel) Sagan, Jesse (Marie) Cordy, Rachel Cordy (Jason) Ricci, Benjamin (Amy) Cordy, Joshua (Ashley) Cordy, Victoria Cordy, Valerie Cordy. Step great grandchildren, Olivia and Drew Sisul, A. J., Maddie, Emma Kate, and Avery Church, Indiana Cordy and Eden Lilie Young. Family and friends will be received Tuesday from 7-9p.m. Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Nichol Funeral Home 1873 East Maiden Street Washington PA 15301 Additional visitation will be held Thursday August 31, 2014 in the Amity Presbyterian Church 653 Amity Ridge Road, Amity Pa 15311 from 2:00-3:00p.m. the time of funeral service. Interment will follow in Amity Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
