Betty J. Grash, 71, of Waynesburg, died unexpectedly Friday, July 11, 2014. She was born June 29, 1943, in Centerville, PA, a daughter of the late Charles and Gladys Bates Piatt. A 1961 graduate of Jefferson-Morgan High School, she worked for a number of years as a housemother at the old Waynesburg Youth Development Center (YDC) and then later as a corrections officer at SCI Waynesburg. She enjoyed shopping thrift stores for vintage pottery, watching PBS cooking shows, and trying new restaurants with her dear friend Eleanor Snyder. She loved the ocean, fried green tomatoes, flowers, Elvis and everything about Christmas. She absolutely adored her two grandchildren, Samantha Wise and Austin Smith, and was proud to celebrate all their activities and achievements. On July 8, 1964, she married Joseph G. Grash,of Dry Tavern. Surviving are three daughters, Dr. Valerie Grash (Glen Murray) of Johnstown, Marlyn (Mike) Wise of Graysville; Krystal (Brian) Smith of Holbrook; and one son, Joseph G. Grash, Jr. (Loretta Crouser) of Waynesburg, two grandchildren Samantha Wise of Graysville and Austin Smith of Holbrook, two sisters, Linda (Dave) Guthrie of Melbourne, FL, and Charlotte Darlene (Frank) Kuharic of Washington, brother, Charles (Diane) Piatt of Naples, FL, and several nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received Monday July 14, 2014 from 1-3:00p.m. the time of service in the Nichol Funeral Home 1873 East Maiden Street Washington, PA 15301.
