Robert “Bobby” Mercante Jr., of Lone Pine born January 3, 1957, passed away unexpectedly at home of natural causes.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mona Mercante.

Bobby was a coal miner and gifted welder that built many bridges. He carried a strong work ethic throughout his life. Born to farm, farming was in his blood, and he especially enjoyed gardening and working the land.

Above all, he was a proud father and grandfather. His family was the center of his world. He shared stories, loved cowboy shows, reading the newspaper and sales ads, and told his daughter these things daily . Becoming “Pappy” to his only grandchild was one of the greatest joys of his life.

A lover of nature, Bobby found peace watching deer at dusk and enjoying the quiet outdoors. He loved riding his motorcycle, cheering on the Pittsburgh Steelers, and playing the soulful sound of the saxophone. A lifelong collector, he enjoyed metal detecting, rock collecting, searching for antique bottles, and finding arrowheads. He could be stubborn at times, but it was always paired with a heart of gold and fierce loyalty to those he loved.

He is survived by his daughter, Lisa Rae Mercante Post (Ryan); his grandson, Anthony Francis Post; his brother Rick (Amy) Mercante and niece Alina, his beloved Aunt Betty Girdish; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and his loving dog Koda.

He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
