Carol Ann Nichol, 84, of Washington, formerly of Marianna, died peacefully in her home on Wednesday July 9th, 2025. She was born in Washington on March 9, 1941, only child of the late John J. and Elenore A. Wolfe Mihalek. Carol attended West Beth High School where she was a cheerleader and was a graduate of the first class of Bethlehem Center High School class of 1959. She then entered into Washington Hospital School of Nursing. She was a 1971 graduate of California College with a Bachelor of Science in Education and a 1992 graduate of Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science. She taught for many years in the Beth-Center and Bentworth School Districts as well as at the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science. She enjoyed teaching and her work as a funeral director for the Nichol Funeral Homes of Marianna and Washington, where she was supervisor. She was deputy coroner for many years serving for Farrel Jackson and then Tim Warco. She was owner and ran Nichol Ambulance Service for many years as an EMT/Paramedic I/ Paramedic II in Marianna. Carol was a pillar of the Marianna community. She ran Nichol's Department Store for several years, helping as many people as she could, giving shoes to children who needed them for school and boots to new coal miner's working at the Marianna Mine. For years she took fire calls, dispatched the trucks and rang the fire whistle. She also enjoyed helping with Marianna Fireman's Carnivals and being a member of the Marianna Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary, Steele-Lillie American Legion Post 744 Auxiliary. She was a member of the Business & Professional Women's Club, Washington Elks, Scenery Hill Lion's Club. She loved to dance and spend time with her family. She had a special love for her poodles. Carol never knew a stranger, she would talk to everyone. She had a heart of gold, doing anything she could for anyone. She also enjoyed traveling with her friends, decorating for Christmas, shopping, entertaining friends and family, and enjoyed watching and cheering on her grandchildren at their sporting events. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Glyde. She is survived by her son J. Richard and wife Kimberly Nichol, two granddaughters Melissa "Missy" and husband Kurk Sergeant, Ashlee and husband Brett Grandstrand, great-granddaughter Aleena Grandstrand three great-grandsons Bryce Grandstrand, Kurk Sergeant, and Matthew Sergeant.
Family and friends will be received Friday July 11, 2025 from 1:00-8:00P.M. in the Nichol Funeral Home 1873 East Maiden Street, Washington where funeral services will be held on Saturday July 12, 2025 at 1:00P.M. with Pastor Gary Gibson officiating. Interment will follow in Horn Cemetery, Marianna.
