Obituary

Chalmer E. Cowen 96 of Spring Hill, Florida formerly of Washington died Tuesday May 26, 2015 in his home. He was born in Amwell Township on May 1, 1919 a son of the late Curtis C. and Mildred Smith Cowen. He was a 1937 graduate of Trinity High School. He then attended Robert Morris College before he was drafted for World War II in the first draft in 1941. He earned the rank of Sgt in the Armored Artillery first division 27th Field serving in Africa and Italy between October 20, 1941 and July 27, 1945. He was a bronze star recipient. Mr. Cowen was a lifelong member of North Ten Mile Baptist Church. He was also a member of American Legion Post 175 of Washington. On July 5, 1997 he married Dorothy Miklic Cowen in St. Hillary's Church in Washington. Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter Barbara S. (Tom) Hebert of Spring Hill, FL, four step children Kathleen (Jim) Brock of St. Clairsville, Oh, Rick Miklic of Finleyville, Susan (Frank) Golsky of Amity, David (Rita) Miklic of Homosassa, FL, a brother Dr. Malcolm (Kay) Cowen of Bethlehem, PA, twelve grandchildren, and twenty one great grandchildren. Deceased are his first wife of 49 years Dorothy McCullough Cowen and his son Richard L. Cowen. Family and friends will be received Friday from 2-4 and 7-9p.m. in the Nichol Funeral Home 1873 East Maiden Street Washington, where funeral services will be held on Saturday May 30,2015 at 11:00a.m. Interment will follow at North Ten Mile Baptist Cemetery.
