Obituary

Delbert C. Wagner, 92, of Hickory, died Saturday, March 2, 2024 in his home.  He was born on March 30, 1931 in Eldersville.  Mr Wagner attended Canonsburg High School.

Delbert served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War as a tank commander.  He served from 1953-1955 before being honorably discharged.  When he returned home from the service, he was married, and later opened his own family business.

Delbert and his wife, Marge owned and operated Wagner's Greenhouse which was opened in 1959.  Their son, Darrin, continues to operate the greenhouse.  Delbert spent much of his time helping at the greenhouse even after retirement.  Delbert spent many years making cement planters and figurines.  During his later years, he enjoyed transplanting spring vegetable plants, creating Easter flower combinations, sorting pumpkins, and making Christmas wreaths.

Delbert enjoyed traveling with his family.  He especially loved taking his camper on cross country road trips and spending time at camp in Potter County.

Surviving are a daughter, Darlene (Steve) Riker of Washington, a son Darrin (Loi) Wagner of Hickory, granddaughter, Kristen (Eric) Caldwell of Moundsville, a grandson Michael Wagner of Hickory, and granddaughter Kelly (Kyler) Siegman of Washington, great grandson, Lucas Ryker Caldwell of Moundsville; brother-in-law Richard (Mildred) Kobertz; longtime companion Delores "Vic" Podolek, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Delbert was preceded in death by wife, Margaret "Marge" Kobertz Wagner; twin daughters Denise and Diane, who died in infancy, parents Joseph and Julia Wagner; siblings Elsie (Harry) Tau, Joseph (Irma) Wagner, Anna (Frank) Smigiel, Helen (Jim) Sumney, Mildred (Jerry) Friday, John (Sophie) Wagner, Paul (Julia) Wagner.

Friends will be received from 2:00PM to 4:00PM and 6:00PM to 8:00PM on Wednesday, March 6th in Nichol Funeral Home 1873 East Maiden Street Washington where services will be held on Thursday, March 7th at 11:00AM.  Interment will follow in Mt.
