Donald W. Anderson 90 of Amity died Tuesday June 3, 2014 in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was born in Marianna on July 21, 1923 a son of the late Arthur Julius and Bernice Fisher Anderson. He attended West Bethlehem High School and then went on to join the United States Army. He proudly served during World War II, being awarded two bronze stars. He was a member of Marianna American Legion post 744. He also was a member of Marianna Methodist Church where he served as a trustee and helped with senior dinners. Mr. Anderson enjoyed square dancing with his wife, belonging to various square dance clubs including the former Greene County Fun Squares and the Buttons and Bows. He also enjoyed wood working, cutting wood, and tinkering. On April 19, 1947 he married Jean Johnson in the parsonage of Second Christian Church of Washington officiated by Rev. Sinclair. Together he and Jean Anderson shared over 67 years of marriage. Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons Barry Anderson of Brooksville, Florida, Scott and wife Rebekah Anderson of Chugiak, Alaska, two brothers Alan (Jean) Anderson of Hood River, Oregon, Kay (Shirley) Anderson of Fredericktown, PA, many nieces and nephews. Deceased in addition to his parents are a daughter in law Sandra Anderson, three brothers John, Cecil, and Melvin Anderson, as well as a one year old sister. Family and friends will be received Friday from 2-4 and 6-8p.m. in the Nichol Funeral Home 1873 East Maiden Street Washington, where funeral services will be held on Saturday June 7, 2014 at 11:00a.m. with Rev. Jim Markley officiating. Interment will follow in Horn Cemetery, Marianna. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Marianna Methodist Church Second Street Marianna, PA 15345.
