Donald H. Daniels, 81, of Richeyville, PA died Thursday, April 12th in the Washington Hospital surrounded by his family. He was born in Brownsville on August 21, 1930, a son of Howard and Gertrude Lawrence Daniels. Donald graduated from Brownsville high school in 1949. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953 and remained part of the US Army Reserves until 1957. Mr. Daniels was employed by the H.J. Heinz Company in Pittsburgh, Mastic Tile Factory in CA, the Alcoa Company in Cleveland OH. He and his family moved back to PA in 1968. He then worked for the Robena Mine, Clairton Mill, and then Combustion Enginering in Monongahela from where he retired in 1987 as a steel laborer and machinist. He then worked part time for Greene County HUD for several years as well as a hearse driver and assistant for the Nichol Funeral Homes. Donald was actively involved as a volunteer for the First United Methodist Church of Fredericktown. He was also an avid sports enthusist. Donald played baseball for the Army and on various other teams in Fayette county afterword. He also played on several basketball teams. He was given the nickname "Pee Wee" as a young athlete. In his later years Donald enjoyed gardening, making knit hats, building puzzles and watching his grandchildren's sporting events as well as professional sports. He loved his family unconditionaly. He married Darlene Miller on July 16, 1959. They were happily married for over 50 years. Surviving children include Michelle (David) White of Marianna, PA, Kimberly (J. Richard) Nichol of Washington, PA, and Donald (Cathy) Daniels of Marianna, PA. Surviving grandchildren are Melissa L. Nichol, Ashlee M. (Brett) Grandstrand, Jason P. White, Megan R. Daniels, and Heidi A. Daniels, a special cousin Roy Clair as well as several nieces,nephews, and cousins. He had one deceased sister, Dorothy Taylor. Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 15th from 12-4 and 6-9p.m. in the Nichol Funeral Home, 1873 East Maiden Street Washington, PA where Funeral Service will be held on Monday, April 16th at 11:30 am with Pastor Brian Carroll officiating. Interment will follow at Horn Cemetery in Marianna. Graveside Millitary rites accorded by American Legion Post #744 of Marianna.
