Obituary

Dorothy Louise Briggs Watkins, 88 of Washington, PA passed on to be with her Lord Friday, March 22, with her daughter, Carla at her side.

Dorothy was born in Greene County on May 26, 1930, to Homer Lemoyne Briggs and Edith May Wise, who are deceased.  She had two brothers, Delbert Wayne (Bud) Briggs, deceased, and Donald Briggs, who died in infancy.

Dorothy was a 1950 graduate of Trinity High School.  She loved square dancing and met Clifford K. Watkins one evening dancing at the Masonic Temple in Washington.  The two eloped to Winchester, VA where they wed on October 23, 1950.  They loved each other and were devoted for 48 years and raised four daughters, Kathy Watkins, Debbie (Hugh) Boardley, Connie (Thomas) Barlow, and Carla Watkins.  She loved her grandchildren; Linda Watkins, Kimberly Studebaker, William Clifford (Elizabeth) Anderson, Kylie Boardley, Ashleigh Barlow, and Elizabeth Barlow; and her great-grandchildren, Carter Anderson, Tony Anderson, and two great-granddaughters who died in infancy, Little Lee and Gracie Lee.

In her early years, Dorothy worked at G. C. Murphys, at a Donut Shop in Homestead, Scenery Hill Livestock Auction, Amway Distributor, and a JAFRA Skin Care Consultant.  She was a devoted wife and loving mother and grandmother.  She enjoyed traveling the country including Hawaii and an Alaskan Cruise.  For many years, she and Cliff were snowbirds spending the winter in Arizona.

She loved her family dearly.  She worked alongside her husband planting and harvesting a large garden and then preserving the fruits of their labors.  She sewed, watched television and movies, she played Dominoes, and was a member of a bowling league, enjoyed visiting and lunching with her many friends, along with shopping.  She was a long-time member of Grace Brethren Church.  Volunteering gave her joy, and most recently she volunteered with the Miss West Virginia Scholarship Organization.  She always put others ahead of herself.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 pm Wednesday March 27 in the Nichol Funeral Home, 1873 East Maiden Street, Washington where a celebration of life service will be held at 11am Thursday with Pastor Marty Bausman officiating. Interment will follow in Forrest Lawn Gardens, McMurray.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL. 60601.
