Obituary

Eda Niverth of Marianna PA, passed on peacefully in her home on February 10, 2023 with family and friends by her side. Eda shared 99 years in this life, most of them in beautiful Marianna.
Eda was born on January 4th, 1924. She was born and lived most of her life in the house in which she passed. She was preceded in death by her husband Steve, daughter Maryjo Barr, and her sisters Rose, Molly, and Rosemary.  Surviving are her children Stephen, Lisette, and Lance Niverth. She will be fondly missed by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Eda's life was dedicated to her family and the people of Marianna. During her high school years, she ran the Marianna Arcade until it closed. She was married in 1948 and briefly moved to Brownsville, only to miss Marianna and return in a few short months.
Eda was always willing to lend a helping hand where needed. During the Marianna mine explosion of 1957, she was 8 months pregnant with her 4th child, and still rushed to the fire hall to offer help feeding and tending to the families and the rescue team. While raising her four children, she served as the president of the American Legion Women's Auxiliary. She brought her kindness and organizational skills to her position as the West Beth Tax Collector for 20+ years, always greeting neighbors with sincere warmth and kindness in her dining room.  She was also instrumental in forming the first Girl Scout and Brownie troops in Marianna. Perhaps most importantly, Eda was a major force in establishing the library in Marianna where she remained the librarian for 30 years before retiring in 2001 at the age of 77! Eda will be remembered for bringing people together to make cherished memories, including coordinating trips and cruises for the community- always coming home with fun tales of their adventures. Eda was Catholic.  She attended St Katherine Drexel Parish, previously St. Olver Plunkett Parish Sts. Mary & Ann Roman Catholic Church.
She loved this community and the surrounding areas, often enjoying scenic drives through the countryside. Throughout her life it was wonderfully common to find Eda tending flower gardens in her yard (Portulaca being a favorite) or enjoying the views of Marianna hill from her front porch- a well-known hot spot for neighbors, friends, relatives, and sometimes strangers who would stop to visit or take a rest. Eda's front door was always open with plenty of candy and cookies readily available.  She will be sorely missed and lovingly remembered.
Family and friends are invited to honor Eda at Nichol Funeral Home at 1873 East Maiden Street in Washington, PA. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Tuesday, February 14th, and again from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Wednesday, February 15th, with a Catholic memorial service in the Nichol chapel at 1:15 PM. Following the service, Eda will be returned to Marianna to rest at the Horns Cemetery.
