Edith Aldene (Dene) Cox, 90 of Washington died peacefully on Sunday, October 22, 2023, at Southmont Presbyterian Senior Care, Washington.
She was born April 5, 1933, in Bentleyville, a daughter of the late Henry Edwin and Gladys Elizabeth Fonner Myers. Aldene was the wife of Albert Cox for 29 years until his passing.
Aldene was a graduate of Ellsworth High School and California State Teachers College. She was a member of the Scenery Hill United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School and was the member Christian Workers class.
After graduating, Aldene taught geography, history, and civics at her alma mater, Ellsworth High School, until she and Albert started their family. After her children had grown, she was employed as a shipping clerk at 84 Lumber Company. Following a brief retirement, she returned to work part-time until she fully retired.
Surviving are her children Edwin (Linda), Amy (Douglas), Randy (Peggy), and David (Melissa). Also surviving are her grandchildren Andrew (Taylor), Aidan, Allen, and Addison as well as nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Aldene was preceded in death by her brothers Randolph, Raymond, Harold, Kenneth, and Roland, and her sister Corina who died in infancy. Aldene was the last of her immediate family.
She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. The family wishes to extend thanks to all the staff members at both Southmont and Amedisys Hospice who cared for her with kindness and compassion.
Family and friends will be received on Wednesday from 4-8p.m. in the Nichol Funeral Home 1873 East Maiden Street Washington where funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11:00a.m. Interment will follow in Beallsville Cemetery. An online guestbook may be signed at www.nicholfuneralhome.com
