Edward D. Conkle, 73, of Amwell Township passed away Wednesday, September 7, 2022 at home with his family by his side, following a brief illness.  He was born in Washington, PA on November 9, 1948, a son of the late Mack and Lois (Elliott) Conkle.  He was a 1966 graduate of Bentleyville-Ellsworth High School, now known as Bentworth.  After High School he attended Penn Commercial from 1966-1968.  He then joined the United States Army where he served in Vietnam and achieved the grade of E5 before being honorably discharged.  He worked at Rubber Rolls, Incorporated in Meadowlands for 43 years, also serving as an officer in the GMP Union, before his retirement in May 2014.  He has been a longtime member of Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glyde, serving as sexton for 37 years.  Ed enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, going out to eat with friends, vacationing, keeping an impeccable yard, gardening with a special love for blueberries, and being outdoors.  He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Susan (Holtkamp) Conkle, whom he married on July 23, 1977, son Gary and wife Elena (Cecchini) Conkle of Washington, PA, daughter Lisa and husband Jeff Tegman, of Washington, D.C., two brothers Bob and wife Barb Conkle, Ken and wife Connie Conkle, sister Barb and late husband Steve Shackelford, four grandchildren Peyton Susanne Conkle, Sadie Juliann Conkle, Bennett Edward Tegman, and Annika Marie Tegman, as well as 17 nieces and nephews.  Family and friends will be received Friday, September 16, 2022 , in Nichol Funeral Home, 1873 East Maiden Street, Washington , from 2-4 and 6-8p.m. Additional visitation will be held Saturday, September 17, 2022 , in Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church, Glyde from 10:00 a.m. until the start of funeral service, officiated by Rev. William B. Henry Jr., at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 21 Church Road Scenery Hill, PA 15360 .
