Red passed away peacefully in her sleep September 13, 2012 at the Washington hospital. She was born October 12, 1927 in Pleasant Grove, PA to the late Ethel Gregg Moriarty and Roy Moriarty. She graduated from Trinity High School in 1945 where she was an outstanding member of the girls basketball team. After high school, she attended the Canonsburg School of Nursing and graduated under the United States Cadet Nurse program. She practiced nursing for over 60 years. During that time she worked at Hillsview Clinic which later became Presbyterian Home. As the first Director of nursing there, she began a training program to help her staff advance in the nursing field. Several of whom obtained Licensed Practical Nurse and Registered Nurse status. She also began several other programs that were adopted by local care facilities at that time. Red also worked at the Washington hospital, Jessop Steel Company, Hospice of Washington, and later retired as a Nurse Supervisor at Mayview State Hospital. She was a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, a member of the American Nurses Association, and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was also an avid horseback rider throughout her life. Prior to graduating from Canonsburg School of Nursing, she married her high school sweetheart, the late Donald Lee Martin "Evvie" who served in the Navy during WWII. Surviving them are two sons William Lee Roy Martin "Butch" and wife Betsy and Donald Curry Martin "Bo" and wife Paulette, three grandsons Carl Jason "C.J." martin and wife Alisha, Nicholas Lee martin and wife Andrea, and Zachary Clayton Martin, two great grandchildren Amelia Rebecca Martin and Shane Lee Martin. Proceeding her in death were husband Donald Lee, older brother William Charles Moriarty, and her companion of many years and second love of her life Dr. William Ruehl MD Red will be remembered and loved always by her family, friends, and all those who were close to her.
