Gary L. Lowery, 77, of Scenery Hill, PA died Thursday, November 9, 2017 at his home.

He was born March 3, 1940 in Washington, PA.

Gary was a graduate of Washington High School and was employed as a coal miner at the Valley Camp, Westland, and the Beth Energy Mines, Mine #58 in Marianna. He also worked for the Elliott Company and later All Clad Metals Company before his retirement in 2004. He was a longtime member of the Marianna United Methodist Church where he served as trustee and enjoyed helping with dinners and hoagie sales. Gary played dartball for Mar/Zol, enjoyed working on his cars and trucks, attending car shows, deer hunting, attending Rogers Flea Market and spending time with his family, especially on their vacations to the beach.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Nellie M. Sumner Lowery; a daughter, Lisa Lynn Lowery (Don) Rice of Richeyville, PA; step-grandson, Zachary Knopp; and  two nieces Belinda Lowery and Cecelia Lowery.

Deceased are one son, Gary Lee Lowery, Jr.; his mother, Virginia Rogers Gorby; and his step-father, Marion O. Gorby; one brother, John Lowery; and a nephew John Lowery Jr.

Family and friends will be received from 6 – 8 p.m. Saturday, November 11, 2017 and from 2 – 4 and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Sunday, November 12, 2017 in the Nichol Funeral Home, 1728 Main Street, Marianna, PA, where funeral services will be held Monday, November 13, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev.
