Obituary

Hugh M. Boardley 75 of Washington died Wednesday February 21, 2024 in Allegheny General Hospital.  He was born in Washington on December 12, 1948, son of the late Benjamin and Ethel Moss Boardley.  He was a 1966 graduate of Trinity High School and then went on to airline school in Hartford Connecticut.  Hugh worked as a baggage handler, retiring from US Airways after 38 years.  He then worked for GG&C from 2005-2023 driving school bus.  He adored the children he drove for and became like family.   His love for airplanes made his career enjoyable and also enjoyed flying to many vacation destinations over the years.    He had a passion for sports, which included playing co-ed soccer, coaching for Washington Soccer, was a PA West Referee, and was also on the board of Washington Soccer  He coached basketball and soccer for his children and enjoyed  watching  all Pittsburgh sports teams.  Roberto Clemente was his all time favorite baseball player.  He loved sitting in his chair Watching tv, especially westerns and John Wayne movies, Three Stooges, and Red Skeleton also added joy to his life.  Hugh adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren.  He was an active member of  Washington First Church of the Nazarene where he held a special spot within the church.  On June 16, 1984 he married the love of his life Debbie (Watkins) Boardley with whom he has shared almost 40 years of memories and love.  Surviving in addition to his wife Debbie Boardley are children Penny Boardley Phelps (Jospeh Phelps), Jennifer Boardley, William Clifford "Cliff" Anderson (Elizabeth Anderson), Kylie Boardley (Andrew Frye), grandchildren Bridget McCreight, Erik Hoffman (Katelyn), Michael Boardley, Emily Schultz, Carter Anderson, Tony Anderson, Skyler Frye, Aubrey Frye, great grandchildren Maximus Smith and Ezra Hoffman, brother Tom Boardley, sister Joyce "Doll" Matteson, and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, his animals and kids from his school bus.  Deceased in addition to his parents are sister Ruthann Barney, grandchildren Lee Anderson and Gracie Lee Anderson,  sister in law Carol Boardley,  brother in law Bob Matteson and Lonnie Barney.

Family and friends will be received Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8p.m. in the Nichol Funeral Home 1873 East Maiden Street Washington where funeral services will be held on Monday February 26, 2024 at 11:00a.m.  with Pastor Carl Kibler officiating.  Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Garden, McMurray.  In lieu of flowers the family asks for memorial donations in his name be made to Washington Christian Outreach PO Box 1659 Washington PA 15301 An online guestbook may be signed at www.nicholfuneralhome.com
