J. Homer Acklin 83 of Washington died Saturday June 28 2014 in the Washington Hospital, Washington Healthsystems. He was born in Lone Pine on September 21 1930 a son of the late William Arthur and Harriett Lane Evans Acklin He was a 1949 graduate of Trinity High School. After graduation he worked for Asplundh Tree Company, then for Jessop Steel from 1957-1967 McGraw and Edison from 1967-1974 and then Jessop steel from 1974-1992 when he retired as a millwright. Mr. Acklin proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War from Feb 1952-January 1954, being stationed in Germany. He was a member of American Legion Post 175 of Washington and the NRA. He enjoyed woodworking, working outside, and was a firearms enthusiast. He married Myrna Locy Acklin in Winchester Virginia in 1956. They shared twenty years of marriage before divorcing. He is survived by his companion of forty years Norma Beecham, three children Joy E. Ross, Jay H. (Leeann) Acklin, Brian K. Acklin, a brother George Hall (Lois) Acklin, sister Eleanor Louise (John) Monda, three grandchildren Shawn N. Ross, Ashley Acklin, and Hannah Acklin, Deceased are a sister Margaret Acklin who died in childhood, and two brothers William H. and Charles E. Acklin. Family and friends will be received Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8p.m. in the Nichol Funeral Home 1873 East Maiden Street Washington, where funeral services will be held on Thursday July 3, 2014 at 11:00a.m. with Pastor Thomas Ricker officiating. Interment will follow in Redstone Cemetery, Brownsville.
