James Owen "Jim" Scott, 80 of Washington, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on July 10th, 2023 surrounded by his loving family.  He was the oldest son of Cook and Doris Scott, brother of William (Janet) Scott of Manassas, Virginia.  Born on December 27, 1942, Jim went on to graduate from Trinity High School in 1961.  He obtained a graduate degree in English with a Psychology minor at Washington & Jefferson College in 1965, his credits exceeding the Master level.  During his time in college, he was involved in the ROTC, and played trumpet both in trio and solo work.  He played trumpet for 30 years, even passing up an opportunity to attend the Austrian Conservatory of Classical Music to further develop his skill.  Instead, he married the love of his life, Fay Garner Scott of Washington in 1963.  He taught English at Trinity High School for the next 36 years of his life, while simultaneously employed in HR with Sears for 27 years before retiring in 2001.  He advised the class of 1984, founded and advised the chess club, and oversaw the model railroad club at Trinity High School.

Following their marriage in 1963, Jim and Fay had four children the late Marc Scott, Lisa and husband John Hicks of Washington, Sean and wife Tracey Scott of Washington, and Aaron and wife Beth Ann Scott of Washington.  Jim leaves behind 9 grandchildren Brittini (Ray), Alysha (Chris), Sean Jr. (Amanda), Samantha (Josh), Elijah (Kimber) Taylor, Hailey (Steven), Dominic (Shelby), Anthony, and 5 great-grandchildren; Judah, Mia, Owen, Liam, Lily, and Saylor, as well as two nephews William and Chris Scott of Virginia.  In recent years, Jim often said that the best years of his life were working with the New Hope Youth Ministry team that he and his wife founded at Grace Brethren Church with close friends.  The ministry focused on strengthening the faith of young adults through song and puppet ministry.  He also acted as the church moderator at this time.  He then went on to become an elder at Calvary Baptist Church for the rest of his life.  Jim spent his retirement surrounded by family and friends, and focused on his passions of scale model trains, muscle cars, and classical music.  He was a lifelong member of the NRA and enjoyed target shooting.

Family and friends will be received Thursday July 13, 2023 in the Nichol Funeral Home 1873 East Maiden Street, Washington, from 10:00a.m.-1:00p.m. the time of service with Pastor Fred McCloskey officiating.  Interment will follow in Washington Cemetery.  An online guestbook may be signed at www.nicholfuneralhome.com
