John F. Knizner, 80, of Reading, Ohio died Sunday, February 14, 2016.
He was born May 4, 1935, in Marianna, Pa., a son of the late John A. and Mary (Kubichar) Knizner. John was a 1953 graduate of West Bethlehem High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1957 and was stationed at Fort Hood and Fort Polk during the Cold War.
John Knizner worked for the B & O Railroad from 1960, starting as a telegraph operator, and retired from the CSX Railroad in 1997 as a Chief Dispatcher. After his retirement he worked 10 years as a crossing guard for the Reading City School District. He also worked for Model Graphics and Media after his retirement.
John loved to work with his hands and was a good carpenter. He loved wood working and making stain glass art. You could always find him in the yard or garden working and loved to share his knowledge of flowers with everyone. John volunteered his time coaching basketball, baseball and softball for Sts. Peter and Paul Parish and for the Valley Youth Organization (V.Y.O.) in Reading, Ohio.
Surviving is his wife, Joyce M. whom he married October 26, 1957. They celebrated 58 years of marriage.
Surviving are sons, John (Linda) Knizner III, Kevin M. (Linda) Knizner, and Edwin A. (Stacey) Knizner, all of Reading, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Joshua and Jeffrey Sivie and Kristina, Hunter, Brady, Jackson, and Maddox Knizner; an uncle John (Joan) Kubichar; brothers Joseph (Lynn) Knizner and Frank (Vickie) Knizner; sister Catherine Hickman of Ohio; sister‐in‐law Joanna Knizner; and many nieces and nephews.
Deceased, in addition to his parents, are a daughter Desiree Knizner Sivie; brother Edward Knizner; sisters Marion Harris and Joan Darcangelo.
Family and friends will be received in the Nichol Funeral Home 1728 Main Street, Marianna, PA 5345 on Saturday February 20, 2016 from 9-10:30a.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00a.m. inSt. Oliver Plunkett Parish Sts. Mary and Ann Roman Catholic Church Marianna with Father Paul Grunebach officiating.
Interment will follow in Lone Pine Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to the Sts. Peter and Paul Academy 231 Clark Road Reading, Ohio 45215.
