Joy Lynn Thompson 91, daughter of Edwin Daniel Clayton and Ormi Leotta Brown Clayton went to be with the Lord on Saturday March 14, 2026 at 5:35 a.m. She was born in Frank, PA on September 2, 1934. At the age of 12 she moved with family to Southern California where she resided for many years. In 1955 she married William Anthony Thompson who passed on March 13, 2000. Joy was a homemaker and mother of three children; William Anthony Thompson Jr. who was born in 1957 with complications and passed at the age of 6 months, William Roger Thompson born April 1, 1958, and Tammye Thompson Hartley born November 4, 1959. In her middle age years she enjoyed going to the casinos with her Mom, and loved going dancing with friends. This is also when she worked at various hotels and hospitals as a housekeeper around Las Vegas. Joy traveled living in Southern California, Las Vegas, Clearwater, Florida, Bellville, Illinois, then settled back in Washington, PA where her daughter resides. She lived independently for 26 years in Washington in Bell Meade Apartments. She was a member of Washington Alliance Church where she loved her church family and enjoyed helping in the nursery. She was a member of the red hat society, enjoyed Bible studies, rug hooking, adult coloring books, word search, spending time with family and trips to Erie, as well as shopping, watching the Pittsburgh Steelers, Hallmark movies and QVC. Joy was known by her signature pink highlights she had in her hair. She is survived by two children; daughter Tammye Hartley of Washington, son William Thompson of California, sister Gayle Lee Cochrane, Granddaughter Skylar Thompson, Grandson Matthew Jordan William Hartley, nieces and nephews; Mark Cueller, Nick McGlynn (Lori), Theresa Cueller, Debra Palladino, whom she all loved very much. Her family would like to thank all who cared for her at her residence, especially Jessie, Joyce, and Shana, everyone at Gateway Hospice, Southmont, and Townview nursing home who all went above and beyond with Joy’s care. She would also like to thank Nichol Funeral Home for their help at this difficult time. A celebration of life luncheon will be held at Washington Alliance Church on Friday April 10, 2026. A guestbook may be signed and condolences left at www.nicholfuneralhome.com
