Obituary

Lee Van Brewer, 82 of Lone Pine/Scenery Hill, PA passed away on the morning of November 18, 2016.  He was born June 17, 1934 in Lover, PA to the late Van Bryan and Luella Carson Brewer, grandson of Enoch and Mary Barrickman Brewer and John A. and Elizabeth M. Williams Carson.

Due to his father's death at an early age and his mother's illness with tuberculosis, Lee was cared for by several relatives, but was later raised by a family friend the late Marjorie Chalfant in Long Branch (Coal Center), PA on her farm. He lived there from the age of seven until he graduated from Rostraver High School in 1954.

After graduation, he entered the US. Air Force and was stationed for basic training at Samson Air Force Base in New York State and spent three years stationed in Landstuhl Germany with the A/2C, 86 th Motor Vehicle Squadron as a Construction Equipment manager.

After his military service Mr. Brewer was employed in the maintenance department at Trinity High School until 1965, then went on to work for McGraw Edison, later Cooper Power as an electrical crane repairman, until the plants closure in 1994. After retirement he worked for GG&C Bus Company driving school bus until 2010.

Mr. Brewer was a member of the VFW legion 744 of Marianna and a lifetime member of the Lone Pine Voluntary Fire Company Station #50 where he served as Chief, Assistant Chief, and President in later years.  He was also a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church where he sang in the choir.  He also played with the Ten Mile Dart Ball League for Pinhook and Lone Pine.  Mr. Brewer enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching the Pittsburgh Steelers, and raising beef cattle, but his greatest joy was spending time with his family and grandchildren.  He had purchased an antique American Lafrance fire truck, having his grandchildren in several parades in Washington, Canonsburg and steam engine shows.

While working at Trinity High School, he met his wife Carol L. Friend, who survives, and they were married July 18, 1959.

Surviving in addition to his wife are daughters Jeaneen Ritchey (Walter) Thieroff, Denise (Chris) DeJohn, a son Edward (Janis) Brewer. Surviving grandchildren, Janelle Brewer, Lee (Lauren) Thieroff, Ashley Ritchey, Linda Thieroff, Jordan Brewer, Jeanna Brewer, and Emily Brewer.  Also, two sisters Evelyn Schaefer of Bridgeport, NY and Reita Brown of Islamodora, FL, as well as several nieces and nephews. Deceased is sister Doris Sedlak Marschall, son-in-law James Alan Ritchey, three brothers-in-laws Paul  Sedlak, Walter Marschall, and Richard D. Brown, niece Cheryl Sedlak.

Family and friends will  be received in the Nichol Funeral Home 1873 East Maiden Street, Washington, PA 15301 on  Monday from 6-9p.m., and Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8p.m. Additional visitation will be held Wednesday November 23, 2016 from 10-11a.m. the time of funeral services in the Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church, Scenery Hill, PA.  In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Bethlehem Lutheran Church and Lone Pine VFD.
