Louis A. Dykstra 87 of Marianna died Friday February 8, 2013 at County Home Personal Care Home in Bentleyville. He was born December 1, 1925 in Peters Township a son of Louis Dykstra Sr. and Kathryn Caraffi Dykstra. Mr. Dykstra was a graduate of East Washington High School and Lock Haven State Teachers College in 1950. His first teaching job was at West Bethlehem High School and later at Bethlehem Center Junior High School where he taught Phys Ed and coached various sports over the course of his career. He retired in 1987 after 36 years in education. He was also a member of the Beth Center Wrestling Hall of Fame. Lou had a way of making everyone he met feel special through his wit, compassion, and unwavering faith. On June 12, 1946 he married his high school sweetheart and wife of 66 years Ruth Dague. Surviving in addition to his wife are 2 sons, Jeff (Molly) of Malden and Kent (Marsha) of Somerset, 5 grandchildren Joren (Kelly) Brandt (Stephanie), Meredith, Kelsey, and Chase, and great granddaughters Isla and Lydia. His brother Terry (Jackie) of Solon, Ohio, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother James of Houston. He was a veteran of WWII serving in Italy, with the US Army Corps of Engineers and was a devoted member of Zollarsville Methodist Church for 55 years where he served as a lay speaker and trustee. He was a member of the Beth-Center Senior Center and a former chaplain with the Marianna Volunteer Fire Department. At the request of the deceased there will be no visitation and all services will be private and handled by Nichol Funeral Home 1728 Main Street Marianna, PA 15345.
