Mack Edward Conkle 87 of Scenery Hill died Thursday November 10, 2011 in his home. He was born in West Bethlehem Township on December 9, 1923 a son of the late Homer and Hazel Hewitt Conkle. He was a 1941 graduate of Bentleyville High School. He drove trucks for his brother for 8 years until he began working at Drakenfield in Washington for 35 years until his retirement in 1986. He belonged to the US Army Air Corps. Mr. Conkle served on the council of Bethlehem Lutheran Church where he has been a church member since 1938. He also served on the School board of Bentleyville-Ellsworth High school for many years. On June 21, 1946 he married Lois Elliott Conkle with whom he shared over 65 years of marriage. Surviving in addition to his wife, Lois Conkle of Scenery Hill are 4 children Edward D. (Sue) Conkle of Washington, Robert A. ( Barb) Conkle of Scenery Hill, Barbra J. Shackelford of Pee Wee Valley, KY, Kenneth R. Connie) of Scenery Hill, 9 grandchildren Jason(Rebecca) Conkle, Gina(Kevin) Leslie, Justin(Jackie) Conkle, Kimberly (Paul) Brown, Jeff Conkle, William (Krystle) Conkle, Gary (Elena) Conkle, Lisa Conkle, Tara (Jake) Lawton, 3 great grandchildren Mason Brown, Ethan Brown, and Joelie Conkle. Mr. Conkle was the last of his immediate family Deceased in addition to his parents are 2 brothers Wayne and Merledean Conkle. Friends will be received in the Nichol Funeral Home 1873 East Maiden Street Washington on Saturday from 6-8p.m Sunday from 2-4 and6-8p.m. and in Bethlehem Lutheran Church on Monday November 14, 2011 from 10-11:00a.m. the time of funeral service with Pastor Peter D. Asplin officiating. Interment will follow In Bethlehem Lutheran Church Cemetery.
