Marcell Jones 74 of marianna died friday march 25, 2011. He was born March 15, 1937 in Norfolk, VA to Dorothy Jones Sutherland and Jody McGlone. He is the oldest of four children at the age of 17 he joined the United States Air Force which he served for 20 years until he retired in 1975 at the Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisianna. While in the service he had 15 pcs movements and proudly served in the Vietnam War. After returning to Marianna he worked in the Marianna mine for 18 years and then retired from there. He belonged to the first Baptist church in Marianna as well as American Legion Post 744 of Marianna. He wrote a book The Virginia Bred Boy IN 1958 he met the love of his life Juanita Willis Jones and married her in 1959. To this union they had 3 children Christina Jones of Washington, Victor Jones of Marianna, and Kimberly Jones of Washington. 10 grandchildren LaKenya Fowler of Shreveport, LA, Vernon Jones of NC, Shareena Pepper of Johnstown, Shawnna Joseph of NC, Christopher Knowlin of Ellsworth, Juanita Ziegler of Washington Latia Caerter of Washington, Christina Jones II of NJ, Reginald Jones of NJ and Markus Perezvasquez of Fredericktown, 13 great grandchildren and a host of nieces nephews, and cousins.Also surviving are 2 sisters Evelyn Foulkes of Norfolk, Debra Sutherland of Alexandria, VA, a brother Donald Sutherland of Norfolk VA. He was preceded in death by his parents a sister Emma Finney, nephew Brandon Finney, great aunt and uncle Eula and Ortman Kirby who raised him. Marcell was a loving father and grandfather who will be sadly missed by many friends and family Family and friends will be received in the Nichol Funeral Home 1728 Main Street Marianna, PA 15345 on Wednesday March 30 2011 from 9:00-11:00a.m. where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Donald Edmunds officiating. Interment will follow In Greene County Memorial Park.
