Richard G. Friend passed away January 10th, 2024 due to complications with
esophageal cancer at 87 years years of age. He was born October 4th, 1936 on the
Gundlach farm in Washington County in a log house. He attend Myers one room
school. He is the son of Ralph W. & Pauline Ruth Workman Friend who are deceased.
He was one of their five children, Shirley J. Gallik (Albert) who are deceased, Edward F.
(Phyllis) who lives in New Jersey, Carol L Brewer (Lee) who lives in Scenery Hill and
John W.(Marge) who lives in Carmichaels. He is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Richard never married so he leaves no descendants of his own. He grew up on
the home farm in Marianna and lived there for many years until the farm was sold. He
spent the rest of his life in Brownsville, Pa.
His love for automobiles was his pride and joy. In his youth he would cut out
pictures of cars and then pretend he was driving them around. When he was old
enough to drive he was never without a car or truck to drive. Of course he loved older
cars and the truck he was driving had antique plates on it. He also like putting together
puzzles that had many pieces to them.
He was involved in genealogy up until the passing of his mother, Pauline. For
many years he has worked as a lawn keeper for private individuals and continued to
work until he was unable to work.
Family and friends will be recieved Thursday January 18 2024 from 10:00a.m.-12:00p.m. in the Nichol Funeral Home 1873 East maiden Street Washington, where funeral services will be held at 12:30p.m. with Pastor John Friend officiating.  Interment will follow at Bethelhem Lutheran Church Cemetery.  An online guestbook may be signed at www.nicholfuneralhome.com
