Obituary

Richard P. Zaharoff Lifelong Golfer and gardener Richard P. Zaharoff 71 of Marianna died Sunday September 7, 2014 in Washington Healthsystems. He was born on April 29, 1943, a son of the late Gloria M. and Peter J. Zaharoff. He was a 1965 graduate of Bethlehem Center High School, graduate of George Washington University in Washington D.C. as well as Washington and Jefferson College MBA graduate. He retired from Chevron Oil as the senior account manager for the Chemical Division, Eastern Seaboard. Mr. Zaharoff proudly served in the United States Army from where he was honorably discharged with a rank of First Lieutenant. He was a member of St Nicholas old believers Russian Orthodox Church. He was an avid lifelong golfer, an Elvis fan, enjoyed concerts and movies, and especially loved the outdoors and his walks with Sandy at Mingo Park. Every year he donated all of his gardening produce to the City Mission and Washington Christian Outreach. He enjoyed a simple life, a "good word" for everyone he came in contact with and will be greatly missed. He leaves behind a daughter, Connie L. (Ruben "Lee")Smith of Annadale, Virginia, and two grandchildren Brett Allen and Brooke Ann Smith of Annadale, Virginia, two brothers Howard J. (Sandy) Zaharoff of Pittsburgh and Pete (Avril) Zaharoff of Marianna, sister Betty (John) Robison of Scenery Hill, a lifelong friend Sandy Robison of Houston, PA, several nieces and nephews and his dog "Missy" Deceased in addition to his parents is a sister Sally Zaharoff Smith. Family and friends will be received Wednesday from 2-9p.m. in the Nichol Funeral Home 1728 Main Street Marianna PA 15345 where funeral services will be held at 11:00a.m. on Thursday September 11, 2014. Interment will follow in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
