Violet L. Stathers, 87, of Daisytown, formerly of Marianna, died Thursday January 16, 2020 in Country Care Manor, Fayette City.

She was born April 8, 1932 in Connellsville, PA a daughter of the late Charles and Ethel Butt Colborn.

She attended East Bethlehem schools and went on to work in the coal mining industry. She held various positions at the #58 mine, Marianna, PA, before becoming a federal coal mine inspector. She would continue in her position for many years, until her retirement in 1998, receiving an achievement award from the U.S. Department of Labor for female mine inspectors.

On July 11, 1959, she married Robert Stathers, who died in November 1979.

Violet was a member of the Garwood Baptist Church in Daisytown. She loved animals and enjoyed watching the birds, as well as spending time with her family.

She is survived by three sons; Jeffery Wolfe, of Long Beach, MS, John W. Stathers, of Centerville and Robert A. Stathers, of Moon Township as well as two daughters; Jennifer Ebbert of Deemston and Lori Ann Ratica, of Denbo.

In addition she is survived by twelve grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to her parents and husband are a daughter; Carol Piatt, two brothers; Lee Colborn and Jacob Colborn, as well as two sisters; Alice Madigan and Liz Sloan.

Friends will be received from 2– 4pm and 6- 8pm Monday, January 20th in the Nichol Funeral Home, 1728 Main Street Marianna, PA. A funeral service will be held at 11am Tuesday, January 21st in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Horn Cemetery, Marianna (West Bethlehem Township). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Garwood Baptist Church, 637 Scenic Drive Daisytown, PA 15427.
