Walter S. Johnson, 91, of Amity, PA passed peacefully in his sleep on May 8, 2016 in Lasosky Personal Care Home, Clarksville, PA
He was born December 5, 1924 in Mapleton Depot, Huntington County, PA, a son of Plummer S. and Cora L. Brode Johnson They moved to Munhall, PA where he attended Munhall High School.
He was a World War II Army Veteran enlisting at the age of 17 in 1943. He served with the Btryp A181st Field Artillary Bn in New Guinea. He was honorably discharged in 1945 earning the Oversea Service Bars and the Asiatic Pacific Theater Service Medal.
He was married in 1946 to Marjorie Iddon Johnson, who passed away July 19, 2015. They had 67 years together. He loved his family and his furry friend Tommy, their cat. His part time hobbies were vegetable gardening, skiing, camping, traveling and his passions were hunting and fishing.
Surviving is a son Eric C. (Sylvia) Johnson, Washington, PA; a daughter, Cynthia "Cindy" (Rusty) Doman of Florida; five grandchildren Kevin Johnson, Amity, Tina (Ben) Hines, Washington, Ryan (Addison) Johnson, Greensburg, Patrick and Sean Doman, Florida. Seven great-grandchildren Sierra Kelley, Noah Schroeder, Charles Johnson, Ayden, Alivia, Riley and Payton Johnson. One great great grandson, Romeo Porter. A brother George Johnson of Moline, Illinois, two brothers-in-law, Edward (Gib) Iddon, Elizabeth, PA, John (Judy) Iddon, Alexander City, AL. and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased in addition to his parents and wife is a son David Scott Johnson, a brother Samuel Johnson. Family and friends will be received from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Thursday, May 12th in the Nichol Funeral Home, 1873 East Maiden Street, Washington, PA . Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 13 in the funeral home. Interment will follow in North Ten Mile Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to the Washington County Human Society, 1527 Route 136, Eighty Four, PA 15330 or Viaquest Hospice, 610 Park Avenue, Monongahela, PA 15063.
