William Thomas Howden 94 of Washington died Tuesday February 22, 2011 in the Washington Hospital. He was born in Scenery Hill on October 30, 1916 a son of Thomas and Eliazabeth Gump Howden. He was a 1935 graduate of Trinity High School. He also attended the Carnegie Technical Institute. Mr. Howden worked as an electrician for Marianna mine #58 and then as a master Electrician for Brockway Glass for 25 years until his retirement in 1980. He proudly served in the United States Army during World War II. He served in North Africa, and Southern Europe earning a good conduct medal, American defense service medal, European African middle eastern service medal with 4 bronze stars. On June 6, 1946 he married Mary West Holden who died in 1987. He was a lifemember of Davidson United Methodist Church where he served as trustee for many years. MR. Howden was an avid investor who enjoyed mentoring people as well as was the caretaker for his extended family. He is survived by a son Bill (Janet) Howden of Darnestown, MD, 2 granddaughters Corey HOwden and Kerri Howden, his companion of 20 years Ann Latek of Washington as well as many nieces and nephews. Deceased in addition to his parents and wife are 2 sisters Helen Howden Wood and Inez Howden. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8p.m. in the Nichol Funeral Home 1873 East maiden street Washington where funeral services will be held on Saturday February 26 at 11:00 a.m with Pastor Patty Comini-Miller officiating.
